An important part of being a veterinarian is keeping up to date with advances in feline medicine and surgery. To that end, Dr. Doug Boeckh and Dr. Glenys Hughes of Merivale Cat Hospital attended the 23rd Annual Fred Scott Feline Symposium hosted by the Feline Health Center at Cornell University (Ithaca, NY) on July 29-31.
Current information was presented by experts in several areas of feline health such as advances in cancer treatment, treatment of behaviour problems, strategies for pain management, feline oral disease, and infectious diseases.
The 63rd Annual Canadian Veterinary Medical Association Convention was held July 6-9 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Veterinarians from across the country attended to hear speakers discuss all aspects of veterinary medicine in Canada.
Dr. Susan Little gave a presentation about her research on two important feline infections, feline leukemia virus (FeLV) and feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV). Her research was published in the August issue of the Canadian Veterinary Journal. Dr. Little also gave presentations on feline herpesvirus and calicivirus (causes of respiratory tract disease), obesity, and arthritis.
